I agree with "Jurassic Park." I liked "Congo," too, though the movie was kinda stinky! Both by Michael Creighton, of course. You may like "The Eaters of the Dead" by Creighton, too. It’s much better than it sounds; it’s Beowulf! It’s also the source for the Antonio Banderas film, "The 13th Warrior."

Stephen King has a fine adventure epic called "The Stand." There some horror in it, but it’s much more an adventure of what happens when a bio-weapon gone terribly wrong kills 99% of humanity. The survivors (3 million in the US) begin to dream of a little old black lady in a Nebraska, and of a dark, laughing man in Las Vegas.

I’m sat at work and one colleague is rushing off to take his kids to swimming, one has got to take their boys to football training tomororw (in the cold!), another has received a call from his daughter to ask him to transfer money into her account to pay a bill (leach), it doesn’t stop. Blimey O’Reilly its FRIDAY - I’m off to do some quality dossing this weekend and do what I want to do when I want to do it.
Cunny - I won’t be in a depression - I’m actually a really happy upbeat person who is glad I don’t have kids. And this question was geared towards people who don’t have kids. Call it selfish - but I think its selfish to have kids just because its the ‘done thing’ and then regret them afterwards. I have a full life with a husband, wonderful family, fantastic friends a lovely home, a nice car, a great job and luxury tropical holidays. I just think kids will cramp my style personally but I don’t think bad of people who have kids - of course plenty of my friends have children and there are plenty of young ones in my family too - I just like handing them back at the end of the day thank you very much.

And to the poster who said I’d be lonely later in life - who says your kids are gonna visit you when yr old and crinkly eh? They may have emigrated to the other side of the world by then for all you know!

they are what makes one a whole/mature/selfless person. Plus I know one doesn’t have children ready for nursemaids in old age but it must be so very lonely later in life without them.
I know a few people without kids and of course that is their choice, I don’t judge that at all but what I find they’re all up their own whatsits and just talk about themselves constantly and what they are doing in their lives….course they’ve no one else to talk about.

Aside from what Naimad above me has correctly said, there is a miniscule market for FF films in the US and Europe, compared to other releases.

Final Fantasy: Spirits Within was an expensive flop, and Advent Children was pretty much inaccessible to people who were unfamiliar with the story of FF7. It was extremely pretty but the motivations of the characters and their backstory was obscured for non-gamers. These factors would be extremely discouraging to Western film studios.

Add to that the fact that JRPGs often contain a great deal of moralising and simplistic character templates that sit uncomfortably with Western audiences and you begin to see why they do not make more FF films.

If anything, the narrative and ideas found in Final Fantasy are much better suited to explanation through the medium of video games.

My Crossfire is Not Scaling…..At All?
Specs:

AMD Phenom II x4 965 @ 3.8 GHz
Asus M4A79 Deluxe Motherboard (with two PCI-E x16 slots capable of running at x16 simultaneously)

Catalyst 9.12 currently, have tried 9.11 as well

Hope I didn’t leave anything out.

So I lose 5-10% performance in every single game I try. Resident Evil 5, Left 4 Dead 1+2, Fallout 3, Batman Arkham Asylum, etc all lose performance with crossfire enable as opposed to disabled. The only application I’ve seen it scale in is 3dmark Vantage, where my gpu results jump by about 75 to 80%. I have Catalyst AI set to standard. I have 2 corssfire bridges connecting the two cards. My games are now crashing consistently with crossfire enabled, but there’s no point in running crossfire anyways because I just lose frames.

RE5 Fixed Benchmark
CrossfireX enabled: 77 avg fps
CrossfireX disabled: 81 avg fps

Batman AA Benchmark
CrossfireX enabled: 209 avg fps
CrossfireX disabled: 217 avg fps

Left 4 Dead (made a demo for a consistent benchmark)
CrossfireX enabled: 122 avg fps
CrossfireX disabled: 140 avg fps

I’ve run each card individually and they both work fine. I did not spend $200+ on a 2nd 4890 for it to hurt my performance and crash my games half the time. I’ve seen 4890 crossfire rigs score 130 fps+ on RE5 benchmark and 160+ in Left 4 Dead. I’m really stumped here. When running RE5 and Batman AA benchmarks with crossfire disabled the GPU usage is around 60 to 70% most of the time. With Crossfire enabled both GPU’s are running in that 60 to 70% range so where is all this extra usage going? I’m on a single display. I can’t figure this out for the life of me and I’m about to return the 2nd card. Please help me.

It is a bit confusing, but the fact that one model is OC, and the other is not, may be a root cause of the problem. Even though both are 4890, they are different vendors, and different configurations. In reality, they should crossfire at the slowest of the two. However, your tests suggest either they are not going into crossfire mode properly (using ATI’s tools?) or something else is not allowing these to run together.

Sorry, can’t help much more than that. I run a 4870×2 card - that eliminates issues like these….

i dont watch the movies (i feel like they ruin the book 4 me) but my fav book is prisoner of azkaban! (sirius black is my fav character)

As far as the books go, it’s a close call between Prisoner of Azkaban and Deathly Hallows, but I choose the former - in my opinion it had the most unpredictable conclusion and introduced some brilliant new concepts and characters.

I very much detest the movies, perhaps the first two aside, as they were only somewhat irksome. I don’t have a favourite but I’d pick Philosopher’s Stone as it stuck to the book the most.
